5 Free Things To Do This Holiday Season
As we know, the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year, but being festive can come at a cost. Whether you are blowing through the stores to buy presents for your loved ones or planning the perfect gingerbread house making night, money always seems to be a persistent annoying factor. However, there are still ways you can get into the holiday spirit for no money at all. Below are a few holiday activities to try in NYC this year.
The best things in life are always free.
Rockefeller Center Tree
Though this may sound like the most basic activity to do for the holidays in New York, it truly never disappoints. There is nothing like standing around the Rockefeller tree with some friends or family and just admiring the lights. New York is filled with wonder, but I feel that we lose sight of that sometimes. Visiting the tree is not only a reminder of the magic in the world but it’s also free, duh.
Bryant Park Christmas Village
Not too far of a walk from Rockefeller Center is the Bryant Park Christmas Village. This is definitely one of my favorite places to go during the holiday season. The whole park is decorated with snow, ornaments, and of course all of the small businesses that create the village. Not to mention, there is also ice skating! You can walk around for no cost at all, but I do always encourage to shop with small businesses, one purchase won’t kill you.
Broadway Under The Stars
Columbus Circle is known for its incredible shopping and proximity to Central Park, but did you know it hosts actual Broadway shows during the holiday season? These shows are put on by the Columbus Circle shops for free. If you aren’t the biggest theatre fan, this is the perfect opportunity to change your mind. I know I will definitely be attending a show.
Window Shopping
One of the best city sights during the holiday season are actually the window displays. Taking a walk down Fifth Avenue, you can see tons of different light shows and decor filling up the stores. Some of my personal favorites are Saks Fifth Avenue, Cartier, and of course, Macy’s. Though window shopping is challenging, I have confidence you’ll be able to resist temptations—you’ll be too distracted by the lights!
If you’re stressed about the financial responsibilities that come with the holiday season, not to worry, there are tons of things you can do that don’t have a price tag. I hope you enjoy the suggestions above. Also, I’m sure you’ll see me in in Bryant Park Christmas Village or walking down Fifth Avenue, I’m just too obsessed. Happy Holidays!
