To Gogh or Not to Gogh to the Exhibit

Have you seen the Immersive Van Gogh experience all over Instagram and TikTok? I’m sure that you have, but if you haven’t heard about it, I’m here to tell you all about it.

The Immersive Van Gogh experience has been traveling through some of the most prominent cities in the United States, including New York City. When I discovered that this exhibit would be coming to New York, I immediately knew I wanted to go. A few friends and I booked our tickets in advance, about a month prior. I am glad we did because there weren’t many available tickets as the date got closer and closer.

Let’s Talk About Cost:

The tickets for the exhibit were fifty dollars per person. This allowed you to get into all three showing rooms to view the experience. If you choose to buy any drinks, snacks, or items from the gift shop, this will add on to the $50 cost.

Location:

The Immersive Van Gogh experience is located on the Lower East Side at Pier 36. The location of this exhibit added to the experience. The facility looked onto the East River which created a beautiful atmosphere.

What is the Exhibit?:

At the Van Gogh experience, the audience is taken on a journey through Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous works. The attendees are able to sit, lay, or stand on the floor of the exhibit while each painting is projected on every inch of the room. The slide show takes you on a three-dimensional journey through Van Gogh’s creative genius.

My Experience:

Upon arrival, I was instantly swooning with the location of the event. I previously lived in the Lower East Side and the East River was one of my favorite spots to relax and take in the scenery. Walking into the exhibit was a piece of cake. There was not a long wait time to get in after going through the security check. This factor added to the relaxing experience of the exhibit.

After checking in, we walked through a room that gave a short back story on Vincent Van Gogh’s life. Having this bit of extra information helped me as an audience member to understand the works of Van Gogh a little deeper. This room leads us to three ginormous rooms where the showing was being held. Each room was extremely spacious and had tons of spots for the audience to sit.

Once we found our spot in one of the rooms, we sat down to watch the experience. The film lasted about half an hour. Though it may have been only a short snippet into the world of Van Gogh, it was nonetheless beautiful. The paintings were projected everywhere around the room. Now I know what you may be thinking, they were just paintings? To be frank, they were just paintings, however, the experience was much more than that.

As you look around the room, different elements of each painting were working with each other, creating movement and melting into one another. To add, each painting had music to go along with it. The classical French music added to the ambiance of the whole experience. If I had to describe the exhibit in one word, it would be breathtaking.

Although my friends and I left after the film played, you could spend all day there. Trust me when I say that I could have slept there if it were allowed. Of all of the paintings that were shown, I must say that Sunflowers was my favorite. The room became so vibrant when it appeared and instantly lifted my mood.

After the film was over, my friends and I strolled through the gift shop which was chock-filled with all different goodies inspired by the incredible works of Van Gogh. To add, there was also a room with high-fashion designs which were inspired by various paintings. As a fashion student, I absolutely appreciated this because fashion is truly a form of art.

Ultimately, I absolutely loved this experience. Though it was a little pricey to get in, the exhibit was priceless. When again will the work of one of the most profound artists be projected on every corner of a room in New York City? I am going to say that is unlikely, however, anything can happen in New York. I am glad I took my chances and went to the Immersive Van Gogh experience.
