Healthy Morning Habits

It is easy to fall into the habit of snoozing your alarm every morning or scrolling through Instagram for hours before you get out of bed. Everybody has late starts to their mornings. I am guilty of doing this every once in a while, but I have the best days when I sit up, get out of bed, and follow these habits.

1. Make your bed every morning

As soon as I get out of bed, I make it. This is a small but beneficial task that can be completed in 2 minutes. Making my bed symbolizes that I am starting my day. This is a routine for me that helps make me feel put together and creates a cleaner space. I recommend making your bed every morning; you might feel a little more productive and motivated. Click here to read 5 reasons why you should make your bed.

2. Drink water or tea

Every night before I go to sleep I make sure my water bottle is filled with water, because I know I will want it as soon as I wake up. I love drinking water when I wake up; it gets my body going and keeps me hydrated. Drinking water in the morning will rehydrate your body and jumpstart your metabolism for the day. I also recommend drinking tea in the morning. Drink some herbal tea to relax you and keep you grounded, or a black tea if you need a little caffeine jumpstart. It all depends on how you feel in the morning.

3. Open your blinds (even on rainy days)

My favorite part of my mornings is opening my blinds to let in the sun. I prefer natural light over a lamp throughout the day. Opening my blinds helps boost my mood and always gets me excited to start my day and get outside. Click here to read 5 benefits of utilizing natural light. I even open my blinds on rainy days to enjoy looking outside and to still get a sense of beginning my day.

4. Take a shower or stretch

I like to take my showers in the morning because it wakes me up a lot more than sipping water and making the bed. Taking showers, cleaning my hair, and getting ready for the day are all small but impactful habits. I love using my favorite body wash and hair conditioner and then picking out my outfit. Little things can have a big impact on your mood, and taking showers in the morning can help you restart with a fresh, clean feel. Stretching is nice, too! I don't stretch every morning, but sometimes before I get out of bed, I stretch my arms and roll my neck to wake up my body more before a nice shower.

5. Check your schedule to see what needs to be done throughout the day

Normally after my shower, I will check my schedule and calendar to see what I need to get done for the day. Whether that be work, cleaning my room, or visiting home for the day; I always look forward to starting my day. My day never really starts until after I have completed all of my healthy morning habits.
